Do you love big bluegill?
I have been doing a lot of experimenting with the grass shrimp and jig fly patterns for gills, crappies and more. Here are a few of the innovations I have come up with...
This is a 'hackle-jig' pattern of red crafthair for the tail, purple chennel for the body with a brown hackle wrap. The jighead is a 1/64th oz Jerry's Flies pre-painted ball head jig. Hope to test drive this one next week.
1/64th oz Jerry's Flies painted head with pink sparkle chennel and flashabou tail. A classic for the blackwaters of Carolina.
Another grass shrimp pattern on the 1/64th oz, or 1/32nd oz jig. White sparkle chennel and flashabou tail.
Red head, pink buck tail with the pink/silver chennel wrap. !/32 or 1/64th oz.
Here is LedHeds 1/32 oz football head jig with a #8 sickle hook. I tied a few strands of Strike Kings spinnerbaits skirts in chartreuse for the tail and used the sparkle chennel for the body. Head is painted metalic beige but does not show up in the photo.
I'll post a few more later. Most of my jigheads are either Jerry Flies from Bridgeport, WV, www.JerrysFlies.com or are jigsheads from Bass Pro Shops White River Fly Shop...'horizontal presentation' jigheads in 1/64th or 1/32nd oz.

All these shrimp being tied; I went out and searched the net for a simple shrimp jig pattern for panfish. And I ended up right back here... ;^>
Nice patterns, Jim. I need some sparkle chenille...
nice, Jim. I gotta figure out that hackle winding business.
I see the gill's population decreasing with these jigs.
Nice jigs Jim you seem to never run out of ideas.
Thanks, guys. I hope to give all of them a test drive within the next several weeks.
Man they look good !
Your imagination continues to impress Jim......These jigs look great!
