Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

So if any of you good folks in California were to recommend the best month of the year to fish Lake Perris, what would it be?  Are there guides who take people out specifically for bluegill and redears?

Just out of curiosity, is Big Jim a large frame white male, nice long beard, possibly in his 50's, has a boat, and love to wear a baseball cap, who like to purchase crickets at the local bait shop on Perris Blvd? If that is so, I have met him.

By the way, I'm still hunting for gills during the cold days of winter. Will be hunting them in the deeper areas wear the basses area. Hope I can dial in like the lake's gurus.

i also agree with AP, leadhead and big jim got that lake dial in. weather its april or october it seems to me that there always at the right place at the right time. Also leadhead got THE MAN CAVE  where he tys some of badest costume jigs, even the oldest and smartest fish in that lake have been cought, from bluegills to catfish , redear, bass, trout , crappie all on his custome jigs.

Bruce may and june are good for the smaller fish, 8, 9, and 10 inch fish. This year I released 2 11.5 in. fish that only weighed 1 3/4 lbs. The bigger fish we get are in Oct. You can catch bluegill all year long. In winter you have to go to 50 to 70 ft. deep to get the nicer gills. C ome on down Bruce we'll give it a shot.

LedHead, you have it made. A big bluegill lake near by, and only 50 in winter. I wish I had it that rough. If it sounds like I am jealous.........I am.

I start Bluegill fishing in March, but it doesn't really start picking up good until the water gets up close to 70+ degrees, and the Bluegill start to spawn.  I've caught larger fish in June, but have caught more numbers of fish in April/May. It all depends on our weather,  the aquatic insect hatches and the Threadfin Shad spawning.  Basically you'll get fish from whenever the weather warms up until it starts getting cooler, usually in October.  And like Anthony said, LedHed is really great, one of the two "Pros" when it comes to finding and catching big Bluegill at Perris.  Big Jim is the other "pro".  If these guys don't catch them, they're not biting!  I really owe a lot to these guys for being generous and sharing their fishing knowledge with me.

Thnx AP.

Big Jim would have to be the guru - he doesn't post like I do.

The best "months", for me have been April through November. Jim does all the cold stuff, when it gets in to the 50s I shut down. Checkout my photo album - post a lot of pics covering the BG fishing for this year.

I like the fishing in mid April into mid May. And the fishing right now and for the nest few weeks are real good also.

Not sure of local guides that fish for the BGs. You won't need one, me or Big Jim will take you and if we can't we will have someone take you.

Bill - this is a spooning lake for you. Your more than welcome. Think our winters get into the low 50s...... Brrrr
