Once again thanks Dick. Good luck for me, I have a couple of those in tackle box
I wanted to put a photo of the float that I used for this rig. I suppose any float would work but this float works the best for me. I don't know what the original intent was for this float but if I didn't know any better I think this was it. Insert line through the large end the end the knob from you rod. Pull out your desired length 18 to 24 inches works for me but what ever works best for you. After you have the length you want twist the cap numerous times to lock the line at you desired length. You will see a piece of surgical tubing in the center that's what locks your line and holds it at that length you have choose. Hope the picture helps to clarify. I think I got my floats at Cabelas or Bass Pro.
Netcraft sells a clear bubble for this type of fishing and some you can add water to the bubble to increase distance.
Dwayne I'm glad I refreshed it and got it back on site to share with all. I know we are gaining new members daily and it may be that little bit extra to help put fish in the boat. I love fishing top water for gills. Wait till you hear them sucking in that fly there's it's very audible there's nothing else like it. I use it with rubber black spiders myself and caught many bluegills with it. Dwayne use it and above all pass it on. Thank you for your interest and I know you'll love it. GOOD FISHIN..
@ Dick - I wouldnt mind seeing a pic of one of your tubing floats. Now that you can upload pictures like a pro, it should be a cinch. LOL
Thanks Dick, for bringing this backup. I am going to try usig flies with my pole, this year.
Want to get this Blog back up for the new members we are growing so fast. Its a bit of information I edited in July of 2011. Hope you can ad this to your bad or tricks. I use it often and caught many fish and if you like top water and don't use a fly rod than welcome to TOP WATER WITH A SPINNING ROD...
Hey Dick,
My uncle in INIDANA showed me this method in 1972, the year I married my WWWWWWWWWWWWWWonderful wife, she may read this. I quit using the casting floats with a small 5/8" regular bobber. ALOT CHEAPER and the ones I've been using for the last 25 or so years are called GREEN CAPS. They were made by the AMERICAN BOBBER COMPANY out of Kansas I believe. I buy em 50 boxes of a dozen at a time. I supply all my little fishing buddies with em. Ya can bounce em off rocks or cement, OR IN OLD AL'S CASE the trees. It takes alot to BREAK EM !! I've caught aaaaaaall my fish with a spinning rod this way for a long time.
TOOTY
David there is a clear float you put your line through the center. What it is. is a hollow rubber tube and when you put your line through it turn it about 4 or 5 turns and that will lock the line. Its easy to make adjustments with this float. When I get out to the barn I'll grab one up and take a picture of it if you wish.
Good old casting float "technology." I tried this a good bit last year; sadly I have to say it lead to few results. I have a couple kinds of bubble floats and a few I've made from wine corks. The bubble floats are cool in that you fill them with water to add weight for casting. Others are just clear plastic orbs, with attached eyes.
I did find that the hook leader has to be kept relatively short. In my experience, anything as long as 24 inches either becomes a pain to cast or ends up getting itself in a tangle. Your mileage may vary.
