Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Moved into the new location (Western Maryland) last weekend.  I've had a chance to fish my 1/4 acre pond about 3 times so far.  I haven't been able to locate my tackle box yet, so all I've been fishing with are small meps spinners.

The bass are biting, but nothing larger than 14".  I've caught two healthy bluegills, but nothing to write home about.  I'll take pictures of the fish whenever the phone finally sends them to my email.

Problems with the pond appear to be a very grassy/murkey bottom.  The water also appears to be extremely clear.

Goals for the pond will be fun to catch sized bluegill for my son.  The bigger the better.  I have no problem managing, harvesting and whatever else needs to be done.  Research is to start soon.  I think the first thing I shall do is look for feed for the fish.  I don't expect to set up any feeders, but I'll probably walk down and throw whatever amount is required in.  It's a short walk to the house and I like looking at it.

I have a small pond on the adjacent property, in which I'm allowed to fish. It IS nice to just mosey on down there and dip a line. Im jealous.

Congrats on moving into a place with a pond! Here in California, a lot of lots aren't even a quarter acre lol.

I'm moving in a couple weeks, too, but not to a house with a pond in my yard. Those are pretty rare in California, but at least I'll be back in my preferred fishing locale after living away from San Diego for almost 20 years.

@Vince - yeah, ain't moving awful? One decision my wife and I made some years ago is that anytime we move, we'll use a professional mover to do it. Packing is bad enough, and unpacking, without having to rent  a truck and load and unload it.  Even when the move is only a few miles, we've found hiring a professional mover to be money very well spent.

Hoping this is our last move, too :p

Congrats on getting moved, Chris. That has to be the absolute worst job in the world. Because of that I never call on friends for help, and it ends up being just me and my wife moving it all. I THINK we made our last move, and will hopefully stay here forever. Now if the right deal came along, with a pond already on it........  Hmmm...... lol

Congrats on the move in, and take your time to unpack before you head out. Plenty of days left to search and hunt those waters.
