Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Did it................won't do it again.

Well, I did it. I stepped out of my comfort zone and into uncharted waters..............literally.

I'm strapped for time, so I'll have to keep it brief................for now.
The weather forecast called for rain as I loaded the truck with chest waders, wading boots, and a tackle vest that was carefully packed with "first assault" gear. The destination was a local river for some exploritory bluegill angling.

The result was less then appealing, however not because of angling success.
I'm going to blame it on the weatherman.
After covering just short of a mile and a half of extremely low water, working every eddy, and slow water edge I could find, my phone rang.
Now, I don't carry a phone when I'm angling because I feel the need to talk; I carry it in case of an emergency - a way to keep contact with someone, anyone, who can help me if need be.
I pull it out of it's place in my rain gear, see it's my wife, and conveniently tuck it right back in its' spot. I know if it's a matter of life or death she'll call right back....................................

Then it really started raining.

I mean really started coming down.

I seem to remember the wind being able to take my casts and place them anywhere other then were I had intended them to land as well.........................

When I arrived safe and sound back home, I found out the phone call was for a life or death matter........my own.
It all made sense; I wondered why I was the only one fishing. I'm guessing most individuals have enough common sense to stay somewhere safe when tornado watches are posted for the area.

I caught one 'gill for my efforts, and that solitary bluegill has opened up a whole new experience for myself.

What I won't do again however, is carry a digital camera along during a severe storm fishing trip.
I will go back again after the bluegills!
After all, I have to justifiy the new dive camera..............................................

I've watched little bubbles rise from a submerged cellphone three times.

Well, at least you had an excuse (even a poor one). I've ruined three cellphones and a (cheap) digital camera on fishing trips. Two phones went wading with me, one phone got left on the bumper when I drove off and got run over by a car following me, and the camera shared the fate of the bumper phone. Some days, ya know?

Good read, I've been there and done that, more than once, and I'll be there many times again I'm sure. To date, I've ruined 1 MP3 player, and 1 digital camera due to rain.

One gill is sure better than nothing!
