I have a 14 acre pond. It is a reclaimed strip mine that had been stripped in the 1950's.
We have done habitat work in the lake for the last five years. The lake is 32 feet deep with one end shallowing to 8 feet. We put in nesting benches and covered them with gravel. We put in 150 pallets in structures and 75 Christmas trees. There are also large mouth bass in the lake. The lake is fed from springs and stays cool all summer below the thermocline. The main weed in the lake is parrett feather but is not a problem because the depth of the lake. The clarity of the lake in the summer is about 12 feet, you could see a white jig.
I own a 14 acre lake that we have managed for bluegill and largemouth bass for the past five years. We have added nesting benches covered with gravel, pallet structes and Christams trees. Does anyone know what else can be added or what kind of baitfish or other that can be added to help the bluegill?
Normally bluegill ARE the forage/baitfish. If you're goal is to raise large bluegill, you certainely came to the right place! Bruce Condello is THE man for BIG bluegill! He has a passion and knowledge second to none for them. I'm sure he will give you LOTS of ideas before the day is done. Another member, Sunil, lives in Pa and is a moderato on the Pond Boss Forum. He too is very knowledgable when it comes to big gills.
