thanks for the info Jim;; when I made these; I just used what I had; experimenting ;; now to start fine tuning it !!   and I agree ;; treble hooks on blue  gill are a nite mare to get out. John  Sheehan suggest checking out  Swedish Pimple; ( what a name  !! )

i think i used seawash?type hooks.large eye and bigger gap.trebles are a nightmare on gills.hard enough to get 1 barb.3 is a mess.lots of hooks on ebay cheap so you can try different things.bass pro etc might have them online.mustad makes hooks in every size and style imagineable

definitly a bigger hook eye; and a wider hook gap; the one I used was really to narrow;; hook shank was about right for the size spoon,,,  even after with all of my misses;; I made it home with 31 gills and a couple of redears; fished for about 3 to 4 hours.

You can try soldering hooks on too Carl .Nickel hook to Nickel blade

bigger eye on hook so it fits around the split ring and slides  and the fish doesn't get leverage to disengage by getting the hook eye caught on one of the rings .Find them in a hook catalog Carl . They are out there and the ones the Swedish Pimple supply are what you need I believe .
