Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

All gills released today after surviving Sandy....Best news of the day is no fish kill in the Dismal Swamp from Sandy.....I went on a 35 mile round trip in the boat to look at everything....I'm happy!

I was really excited that we didn't have a fish kill from the storm which often occurs with the impact of tropical storms and hurricanes......The bite was more impacted negatively by the significant drop in water temperatures in the week since Sandy passed. A couple creeks I visited early yesterday read 49 degrees which will shut down the Coppernose bite for sure.....But I found a few gills and got out so I was happy, it is November which is probably ranked 9th if I were to rank all twelve months for bluegill fishing.......

Post-Sandy bites are not affected after all. I talked to my cousin in upper New York, and he indicated that he was able to haul in quite a bit of every species in flooding areas that used to be someone's backyard.  They are hungry after that storm.

I hear you on the cold hands Jeffrey.... I'll be glad when I settle into "winter mode" completely.....right now I keep forgetting my gloves!

Thanks Jim.....Raised in the deep South and living no farther North than Knoxville/Virginia Beach I don't care for the cold....but wool socks are great if you keep them dry and layers work well.....My hands suffer the most.......These fish hit so softly today.....I used a micro float and often it wasn't even going under on fish I hooked......just slight vibration but good cold water fishermen know that fact already........It wasn't unbearable but surprising not long after a hurricane went through that gained strength in this region.......

Jeffrey...if you can stand the cold, you might be surprised as to how deep into the winter you can still catch those fish. Good job!

Don't like it when I have to wear my leather jacket on the boat gill fishing!
