The Cap Spider was named that because the inventor had them hooked into his hat when asked what he was catching all his fish with.
"These right here," he said, pointing to his cap.
You're right, though, they are very much alike. Led Head uses them I catch fish down to 50 feet or so!

OK, Thanks Scruffy.......The fly-rod version would be similar to a "cap-spider". I have a bunch of these tied in different colors. Yes, they do catch fish very well especially when the sun gets high and top water action slows way down..........Don
