Ken...I caught this fish from a small local public lake that has a total catch and release regulation on all species. Unfortunately, some people have been sneaking in at night and catching & keeping the cats. The bass population remains good and the red ears and bluegills are getting bigger, as are the hybrid sunfish. it also has crappies over the 13 inch mark. Just a wonderful little lake so close to home, with some big fish opts. I am hoping people don't abuse it.

Great fish Jim! Its been years since ive caught one but i remember the fight. Awesome

Exactly! This is why I don't prized over the bass, but chase after the carps and catfishes for the real fun of the fight. I value the fun even more on light and ultralight gears.

On comparable gear, and similar sized fish, I would have to put the channel catfish ahead of the common carp and the blue catfish in terms of fighting ability. And they can put it all over the largemouth bass as well. Just a great, sometimes overlooked gamefish.

Prized catch Jim. Can't wait to have these side-by-side with the carps for comparison.

David...I used the very tip of a nightcrawler on the # 16 gold hook. The trout magnets I use are called 'mini-magnets' they are great for most sunfish species.

check out their site at troutmagnet.com...lots of cool panfishing stuff for gills and more.
