I was wondering the same on the markings.  Could these be different strains of LMB?

Also on the taste of LMB I find to be pretty good, just the meat seems to be a little more firm than most and I have a hard time getting breading to stick to it.

I am thinking about cubing some up and cooking it in some crayfish boil.

Taste the same to me!  I noticed the markings too, the fish were caught fairly close together withing a few hundred yards.

The Bass on the left and the one on the right show quite different markings!

Haven't eaten bass in a long time .Really don't recall if they taste any different than bluegill but I'm fairly sure thier diets are not exactly the same so they must  .
