A very isolated Sunfish species that I may get an opportunity to fish later this week in southern Louisiana.....Orange Spotted Sunfish

These orange spotted sunfish are even rarer than the reds and blacks......my grandfather had a great pair of these mounted on an old piece of cypress.....it was awesome for the 60s......wish I had a picture.....

Nice fish Jeff! I am glad you posted this, because I have one that was hard for me to identify and I was told it could be a Spotted Sunfish, but I am still not 100 percent sure. I caught it in Georgia out of the Suwannee River (blackwater system). Here it is:

Yeah Dick....several other sub species of spotted sunfish not pictured here.......in some bayous in Louisiana these fish guard every cypress tree in the water.....they are relentless and often attack baits larger than they are......
