Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

My new Chehalis came today.
This is how it comes out of the box, packed in its shoulder pack bag.
I won't be toting it to remote mountain lakes, so the bag will be just handy
It's a big bag full, at about 30x18x24. The little I looked at it, it seems pretty tough.

Now that you've had the Chehalis for a while, how's it working out?

If I may ask, what does something that large (it's as big as a framed pontoon boat, at 8 feet) do for you that a regular-sized float tube doesn't? It looks huge, with those pontoons sticking so far out to the front

Deluxe accommodations, a lot of flotation, and oars.
Once at your fishing area, stow the oars and fin around. It's a tube on steroids, essentially.
I got it for the price: $139
I was more interested in replacement pontoons for my OTHER ride, a personal pontoon. But at that price, it fits in the truck bed easily and it's only 15 minutes to my fishing spots.
But, I still don't have waders or fins, and have been real busy of late - it is still in the box.
Were I an established toober, like you, Id probably go with a Cumberland.

After a few years of use, my float tube is up for replacement. While I'm leaning toward either a Fat Cat or Super FC this time around instead of an ODC-420, I haven't totally ruled out getting a pontoon instead, the main draw being that I could stick my trolling motor on the pontoon and zip around the lake a lot faster.

Well, at least it wasn't packed in an "embarassing" box.  A buddy of mine on another board bought a float tube, used, and the seller had packed it into a box from a Barbie doll house.....

Thanks guys. I just stepped off 8 feet- the length of this thing.
Holy cow, what a tub!
That will be its official christening name, when I first take it to the water and shake my fist at the Gods.
"The Tub."
If it is nothing else, it should be comfy.

Looks like great fun David. I always wanted to try this. Like a kayak but closer to the medium. Looking forward to your results!

@john
Yessir. It seems benign enough, right? But there is always a danger unseen when we leave our safety zones.
This shouldn't keep one away, but it demands one be aware.

Yes David fishing can be dangerous .Sounds like a joke until you consider ; Lightning in an aluminum boat , Treble hooks finding their way into the flesh of careless fisherman , drowning in rivers because the fish were hitting and you didn't notice the River rising , falling thru the ice in frigid water ,boating accidents etc

@John - me too!
Safety and danger is not something we dwell in with fishing, is it?
But once you leave the relative safety of the shore, even otherwise simple events can become dire.
I used to be a small boat sailor and served in the NAVY, so this awareness is programmed into me.
