Do you love big bluegill?
Wanted to try a boom, or balanced, fly. Standard minnow-baitfish color scheme.
White and black marabou
Red quill throat
Red flashabou tail
Silver Quick Descent dub
Black Ice dub
Head: split shot on plastic broom bristle.
I loosely tied in the boom head and moved it back and forth on the hook to get the balance I wanted. Slightly nose down, the drag of the marabou should help give it a glide effect in the water.
I'm picturing it fished down the face of rip-rap, along downed tree limbs and along drop offs.
This is an experiment; most of these are tied as leech or Wooly-style patterns. We shall see what's up with this variation at the lake this season.
