It was always exciting to fish Crappie in a state in which the record Sac-a-lait (white/black crappie mixed) is 6 pounds.....fish tales back home said that fish was 28 inches long and the man's entire fist could fit in it's mouth......The top ten Sac-a-lait in Louisians are all over four pounds as well......Amazing to think about!

Yes they did Zach....my daughter was 5 on New Years Eve in 1992 and caught her personal best @ 2 pounds 15 ounces and 21 inches long..........She also had a rod break in her hand that night with a 24 inch Hybrid Striper.......Mid 80s and through the 90s I took a fishing vacation to Toledo Bend every year, often a month since I was living in South Carolina then and it was 1200 miles to get there.....We had many 100 fish night in which the smallest Crappie would be 14 inches.....I've never done that anywhere else I have fished.......

So were those 20 inch crappie pushing 3 pounds?

What year were you catching these slabs?

Thanks for a great trip Eric........it's easy to reminisce back to the South Carolina days crowing up on the Cooper River and Santee Cooper Lakes but we've got some good fishing in coastal Virginia and North Carolina also.....Good to get out there and enjoy a day fishing with somebody that loves it as much as I do!
