Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Dan only gets a chance to catch Yellow Perch when he visits me in North Carolina so Yellow Perch fishing isn't real good at this time , but Dan did locate a nice one Shallow on the Gronaw Grass Shrimp.....

Here's a photo Jim......Understand it has been certified as the Virginia state record and is now with the IFGA pending World Record Certification. Three Pounds and Two Ounces caught on a live minnow in a private lake......Would break the current world record of a fish caught in New Jersey in 1989 @ 3 pound 1 ounce.................

Actually...that's a pretty good yellow perch! Congrats!

Did anybody see the new state record, and pending world record, white perch from Virginia? 17 plus inches and 3 lbs. 2 ozs.! I'll try to get a like up for it.

Jeffrey...did you see it? Caught just north of you near Norfolk...!

Man those thing are freaking huge. Jim better start posting his pink shrimp fly tying so we can get the same benefit as you do.

Nice! I was just telling my kids last night how great yellow perch taste and how I wish their range extended to California. They're in a couple of lakes here where they were (illegally? Don't know) planted, but that's it. I think there aren't many even in those places.

It's funny how they're considered an invasive species here, even though nearly all California game fish are technically invasive species: LMB, SMB, stripers, catfish (all species, AFAIK), crappie, sunfish (all species), and some of the trout and salmon species you find here, were introduced. I don't think carp are native here, either. What's native? Salmon, steelhead, rainbow trout, golden trout, Sacramento perch. Maybe cutthroat trout? Not sure.   Some species of sucker are native, I think.

We have all these invasive species here, and it would really stink if we didn't have them, but any johnny-come-latelies like northern pike are officially considered invasive and they work to eradicate them. Go figure. I'm not advocating the illegal introduction of fish; that's a Bad Thing; introducing a new species requires scientific evaluation and should only be done within the law. However, there is quite a bit of hypocrisy in the idea of what is and is not an invasive species in California, IMO.
