Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

36 RBS , 1 P seed Wanaque River Started with a Hendrix "Rascal" on the Flyrod ;immediate hits but no takes. Tipping the "rascal" with small piece of worm got 4 Red Breasted Sunfish. Switched to spinning rod 2# test line and a 32nd Chartreuse/Brown Bucktail Jig I tied /tipped with Twister Tail ,The bait got down to the fish quicker in the shallow pools and caught 7 RBS in short order . Switched to an untipped beaded beige nymph my brother tied; threw it with the flyrod ,nothing . Switched to spinning rod and scaled down to a 64th oz feather black head jig I tied. This was killer and caught 25 RBS and one Pseed without being tipped . Very low water conditions and stained. A fine 90 minutes of wading/fishing from stream rocks .Great way to bring in October! A size 10 or 8 hook is perfect for these little beauties!

Glad you like everyone! Tony ,I read today that this mainly Eastern River fish has indeed been introduced as far west as TEXAS , as you say!

Jim ,you might be a little too west of the normal range of this eastern river gem .They inhabit lakes too. They have been introduced as far west as Texas however .

John they are a neat looking little fish. Are they predominately in the river systems or in your lakes to.
