Being as I live in the county I can testify to the deer flies and when they bite you it hurts like H_____. The thing is you shoo then away and there right back they are truly a pain once they lock in on you.
nice design!
Carl,
The deer flies are what I hate up here. They can bite through a t-shirt and the bite is painful!
Dick,
I make my own leaders - build your own leaders without jigs or tools
If I want to keep the fly on top I coat the leader with floatant, and rub some on the fly, too. Usually if the start sinking a couple false casts will dry them out. If the fish are really on the feed it doesn't seem to matter much if they do sink slightly below the surface.
Last year one of my most productive flies for bluegill was a black ant, and they actually did best if the got waterlogged and did sink slowly.
I WILL SAY THIS MIKE--- WHEN NOAH HAD ALL OF THE ANIMALS ON HIS ARK;; 2 BY 2;;; WHY DIDNT HER JUST GO AHEAD; AND SWAT THOSE FLIES; MOSKITOES; AND GNATS;; WHEN HE HAD THE CHANCE ??? LOL
I made a few gnats last year the fish loved then but after about 30 seconds they started sinking. Have't got one to float yet but the do catch fish I've found if you can catch them before the sink..
TERRIFIC LOOKING BUG MIKE ! THE SIZE SHOULD BE GREAT !!
Winter must be here. I dug out the tying tools and supplies tonight and tied a few Griffiths Gnats to get started. (#14 hooks - good bluegill fly for me)
