Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Not a pig by any means, but a nice sunfish for an OC park lake.

Our lakes used to have nice fat sunfish, but they stunted, due to everyone keeping all the monster broodstock, leaving stunted adults at a max size of 4-5 inches...

This lake has a few monster shellcrackers swimming around, and I'm going to get a few next time..

Hey jeff!

I actually ran into the guy that dumped the original shellcrackers in there, he was like "How the heck did you know that!?" haha

He was pretty cool, he knew that lake pretty well.  Caught a nice little 3 lber on a frog lure on the muck.

those redears are thriving quite well, at least until they decide to drain it again =(

if you're in fullerton, check Laguna Lake out, it's a beautiful park, lots of horses go through, see alot of hot trophy-wives jogging there :D``

I love Laguna, they really take good care of the lake.   There are actually decent sized bluegill in there, a few over 8-9 inches swimming around.  You find some gillcrackers/shellgills there, a few green sunfish here and there.

There used to be black crappie in there, before they got rid of the lillypads and water hyacinth, and added the water jets.

JB-  You can find it on Google Maps.  It's between Harbor Blvd and Euclid St in northern Fullerton.

My niece (probably not the right English word; cousin-by-marriage's daughter, people might call that a niece in Vietnamese. My kids call her dad "uncle") goes to CSU Fullerton. I didn't know there was a lake in Fullerton or I might have tried it when I lived in OC :p

I believe he's talking about Laguna Lake, a small lake in Fullerton, Calif., in the County of Orange, (OC).  I grew up there in the 60s.  The county drained and completely changed the lake back in the early 2000s.  They restocked with northern strain Bluegills and Redears already the BGs are stunted.

Laguna Niguel? If yes, please join us in the California Bluegills group. I'm in San Jose but will be moving back to San Diego in November. Used to live in Orange County and sometimes fished Mile Square Park, but not with any particular success. Too bad they don't allow tubing in those ponds.
