Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Michael Caserman caught this 4 pounds 13 ounces, Bluegill on Lake Havasu on June 6. The 16-inches fish was caught around 11 a.m. on McCoy fishing line using 12-pound test with bait. Caserman suggests Havasu anglers fish early in the morning or at night around dusk, around shallow embankments.

I don't think this fisherman was fishing for panfish.  With the glove and 12 lb test, I'm pretty sure he was fishing for Flathead Catfish, which are abundant in Lake Havasu.  I'm not sure it was stated yet, but the reason that the Redears get so large here is because of all the Quagga and Zebra Mussels in the lake that the clam-eating sunfish love to eat.  Pure protein.

This fish freaks me out a little bit. I would so love to see a more detailed close-up. The yellow fins suggest a little redear influence, but there's really no way to tell for sure.

This is an astonishing fish...would have to be a redear, I'm thinking. And it appears that Havasu has been somewhat 'under the radar' in the trophy panfish scene.
