Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Got this today, a cute little 5' UL spincast rod/reel combo - $12 from my friend John's shop.
It's been apart, new-lubed and stripped of line. Will add some 4 lb test tomorrow.
Should be useful on the kayak.

@ Leo - I hear ya!

I got it for the kayak, for the backwaters and tight places that little boat is best for.

Looking forward to getting out in it soon.

@chris - the friend I referred to owns a "junk shop," with everything from nice antiques to Chinese crap. He always has a bunch of fishing stuff, too, mostly obtained from closeouts and odd lot sales. In fact, I found another one of these Microlites in the back of his store. I'll probably get it next time I'm there.

I was able to try it today with some 4 lb test wound on. The rod is a 5 footer, with that nice combination of medium action spine and soft tip section. This makes for nice casting. Even with small weights or 1/32 size jigs, it casts and controls well. The drag is also nice and smooth.

Today was it's blooding day, too, as I caught a river 'gill on it.

I like it! I don't care if it's a Barbie ultra pink 3' or a grand gold plated gear set, if it catche fish, it's a good gear to have in my book. Better than tying a line, hook, and bait on a twig or a broom handle.
