Another issue that has impacted the Paddlefish population.......they are taken both legally, and illegally, for their roe...eggs. Since the Sturgeon population has declined, Paddlefish have been harvested as a substitute for this delicacy.

Awesome fish

David, I believe the Paddlefish are threatened in some areas, but not endangered....yet. Like some other species, the Paddlefish has been affected by man-made impoundments, dams, etc. Another species facing the same problem would be the Shoal Bass in Georgia.

Are they classed as restricted, or endangered, etc.?
Isn't there a lottery system for legally taking them?

Yep, caught snagging.  That's how you do it since they eat plankton.  I was able to hook into nine of them that morning.  They are a very unique fish as well as excellent table fare.  I eat a lot of fish and paddlefish is definitely my favorite freshwater fish hands down.
