we have golden rod here with the same mutations from the worms, they are extremely tuff to cut open so i would think they would work well.anyone ever hear of pop cane?i used to find it in the tangles  along rivers and creeks after the spring floods.it is a balsa wood type material ,i always found it as a dead stalk with no bark blondish in color.about 1 inch in dia.very light like balsa with a hole in the core, sands to shape easily or cut to size and run linr thru the hole.

I collected these ragweed galls today. I have seen them used as floats before. Carl Hendrix reminded me of them in a post a few days ago. He called them horse weeds. I just need to dip them in polyurethane to seal them and they will ready to go. I don't know how tough they are but I will let you know.
