Foam Spiders

Tried my hand at tying foam spiders and hoppers. Going to break out the long pole tomorrow and see if the fish like them.

Comment by Leo Nguyen on October 9, 2012 at 11:48am: Excellent spider Vince. I made quite a few of them in the past, but not as small and neatly done either. I used a few of Tooty's, and WHAM! One was completely gut-hooked by a 2lbs bass. One was lost after the trout decided to run into the structure with it. Just plain crazy. I normally add a little perl flash to the head, near the hook's eye like yours to create wake. It's like a lunch bell going off in the water. Love the extra long legs, which very very critical to create that "HEY I'M HERE" surface disturbance.

DID YOU TRY THESE AFTER YOUR FIRST ATTEMPT? PERSONALLY they look great to me and IMHO , the simpler the better and floating spiders when the waters flat is the most underated fly that any one can tie. I've been making em for 25+ years and stlll love em on the long rod when conditions are right.

Got up this morning and the wind was howling. :( Decided to try it anyway, and today the gills won.I had a little one smack at my orange spider and that was it. I think a wet fly would have been the way to go today. Any suggestions on something easy for me to try tying?
