Do you love big bluegill?
I wanted to try making a few poppers, but didn't want to get a bunch of supplies for just a few. So here's what I did.
- Small foam cigar floats... $.15 each
Cut these in half to form TWO popper bodies. Rounded dowel pushed into the cut half to "dish" the face for a good "POP!"
Cut slot on one slide for hook.
- Hook... #2 Aberdeen from my stash. $.10
I used needle nose pliers to bend a hump in the hook.
- Thread, feathers and fluff from stash. $.05
Just tied in marabou, Flashabou, etc.
- Eyes... Punched out of 1mm craft foam. $.01
I glued eyes on with silicone RTV. A blank paint dot for a pupil and it looks "surprised" enough to suit me.
The hooks were glued in with urethane adhesive, like "Gorilla Glue." You could use foam-safe super glue, too, if you had that.
For less less than a quarter each, you're golden. Tie on a nymph dropper and double your fun.
