They'll definitely catch fish. When you think of how fish see and how they have to take a meal when it comes along, theres a case to be made for simpler ties. Most of the time, my ragged jobs catch fish as well as something with more finesse. This seems to be a constant - make it look LIKE a nymph and it'll work.
These bear a resemblance to the Briminator, and that one DOES catch fish.
I'd say you have it worked out.
