It has a LARGE MOUTH so not pure REDEAR!!!! COLD WINTER NIGHT must have been some HANKY PANKY goin on!!!!! :-)

Tony, the orange colored fins is  why I thought Green SF was in the mix . I could be confused however .

Pure Redear do not have colored fins, it looks like a hybrid to me.

Are you guys sure that this fish is a hybrid? It looks like a brilliantly colored pure Redear to me. You can't always go by colorization. The fish's habitat will determine that. Some pure Redears have the brighter colors and some don't.

id say green sunfish hybrid of gill of some sort lol one pond near me is full of hybrids. i love catching them every fifth catch looks new or different. some one must have stocked it with a few blue gill years back and some cats etc but now the hybrids are in charge of the entire pond. i use an app on my phone that is free for apple and android called fish id from medal media. its pretty accurate and has good info and pictures etc you guys should check it out. free download.

John, Redear have a mouth like a BLUEGILL!!!! GREENSUNFISH HAVE LARGE MOUTHS!!!!! Not hear of a RES X GSF mix but this one is DIFFERENT than anything I have caught here!!!!!!
