I find plenty of bass on my hook when bluegill fishing. I rarely latch on to the whoppers that Jim Gronaw or Jeffrey manage, but they show up.

Beetle Spins and small spoons seem to account for many, with the ever-popular earthworm catching most of the smaller LMB's I hook onto.*

Great observation, Leo, catching the connection between bass and bluegill. For all intents, their senses, at least, mirror each other.

As an aside, to this day I cannot recall catching but one bass on a soft plastic worm - and that was a VERY long time ago. Even then I didn't know I had caught the fish until it shocked me by being there! The most popular artificial bait for bass, and I've never knowingly had one even pick up a worm that had my line attached to it.

Bass is just an extended family of the gill's family, so, I guess they just go crazy with gill's baits and jigs. Now..grass carps and catfishes is a whole different ball game. Carps do the same dance number as the LMB for some reason, grabbing insects at the surface of the water like LMB by exploding out of the water. Bullheads and channel lurk the water's surface like sharks actively in the early hours of dawn.

I rarely target largemouth bass Leo but admit I can get distracted from time to time when they are active...can be very intriguing and inviting specifically when they're active around you......My guests always like the pull of a largemouth since my jig fishing always entices a few strikes.......

Imagine sitting in the float tube, minding your own business, and these things leaping out of the water all around you, doing a water ballet. That's what you get at 6AM at Lake Perris, while gill hunting.

I caught one last week that was maybe five inches.... at most. The little devil leapt clear out of the water in the fight'.
Had to be the smallest green trout/carp I've ever caught.
