Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Hook: #12 wet 2x
Tail: olive Marabou, sparse
Underbody: Lead wire
Rib: Copper wire
Body: Peacock Ice Dub,
Wing case: Mylar pearl flash tinsel,
Legs: Guinea barbules,
Eyes: Melted broom bristle eyes.

Nice and sparkly!

In a 1990s study from SD, it was found that all of the warm water gamefish in the sample groups were feeding heavily on nymphs of this type. This included everything from bass to pike, walleye to bluegill/sunfish.

If you don't have something like these in your box, you probably should. There about a gazillion different nymph patterns, all sharing pretty much the same attributes seen here. The range of colors these aquatic critters are found in range from tan to black. Variations of olive are most common.

It's possible Mark. I've caught with the same design, so we'll see. It was more to test the broom bristle eyes as anything

nice but the thread wrap that went around the hook may prevent a hookup

The radar is on at all times, Carl. You should see what I've learned to do with sparkle ribbon from WalMart!

Thanks Mark.
I found the broom bristles the other day at work and wanted to see how they worked as melted eyes. The nymph is a natural test bed for this.

wow David, looks killer

Pretty much Leo. Nymphs of all kinds are common beneath the waters surface, practically everywhere. That's why patterns like the Hares Ear or pheasant nymph are so productive - they don't duplicate any one thing, but they look like everything the fish are accustomed to eating.
This one is actually basic in its structure, and follows the usual construction for such things. Only the materials vary.

Interesting design. Maybe late emergence for the early summer? Could be a killer.
