Definitely a pure pumpkin with a pigment issue. See a lot of them up this way in uber-clear MN waters, pumpkins and BG's alike, as well as pike, walleyes, and perch.

Have you caught more like that from the same area? Could be a Pumpkinseed that has developed a colour different from pumps in most other areas. Longears exhibit such colour variations from different bodies of water, just never heard of that trait in pumpkinseeds before.

Orange spotted sunfish are found in southern Minnesota, Alexandria is located in the central part of MN so I wouldn't rule the possibility out. It is definitely a hybrid of some sort and very beautiful one at that.

Not likely, since alexandria MN is way outside the range of orangespots.
wish I got the fins, didn't think of it, it had normal colored fins, like a bluegill or pumpkinseed would have, mabye a little greyish but not blue.

I am still thinking some sort of orange-spotted sunfish hybrid due to the lackluster red on the ear tab. The ear tab looks very similar to those on a BG x GSF cross. Maybe this an orange-spotted sunfish x green sunfish hybrid? I would sure like to see a whole picture of the fish that includes all of the fins.

Beautiful fish regardless.

Or maybe an orange spotted sunfish x pumkinseed cross?

Looks like a straight pumpkinseed with a chromatophore issue.
