I agree with pumpkingill. Most p-gills I catch also show that high forehead like you said. Also check out that purple sheen on the back under the dorsal, something usually characteristic of fall/winter bluegills.

In looking at my other pic I posted of a pure P-seed today, I think it pretty well proves this fish to be the Bluegill X Pumpkinseed hybrid.

Most, if not all, of the P-Gill hybrids from this water exhibit the 'high fore head' or taller profile that is characteristic of the pumpkinseeds.

And wouldn't the pure strain also has a more forward pointed front, over the oval forward bulky exhibit by bluegill?

Just an observation Jim......A pure pumpkinseed doesn't seem to have the long pelvic fins like a pure strain bluegill......

I agree with Jeffrey. The facial area is pre-dominant with pseed, but the entire body and eartab are just screaming out pumpkingill.
