Thanks Jeffrey and I learn something on here every day, all ya gotta do is ask the right guy!!!!!!!!!!

They do look more like a Crappie Tooty hence their Scientific Name is Centrarchus Macropterus which means Anal Spined with long fins......It is a recognized sunfish species in the gamefish category in several states within it's range. In North Carolina Fliers count towards your total 30 fish aggregate for sunfish on a given day......Virginia they count towards your total 50 fish aggregate for sunfish on a given day......

THANKS JEFFREY and ya know the profile of this fish almost looks to be closer to crappie shape than bluegill shape buddy. Just the way they look to me anyway. Are these an actual species all there own or something else?

We're going to try Jacob....I consider 9" the threshhold for a trophy Flier Tooty....You can get in these things and catch a 100 between 6 to 9 inches but I have been a good student and learned a lot over recent years and now have some waters that produce the world class Fliers that I have featured here.....Just nice to have another option for sunfish that bite in colder water and spawn earlier than other sunfish in my region...most of the time it will be a February/March time frame in North Carolina and Virginia.....
