Ray,
I find it slovenly myself. I respect the shot, mind you - it isn't an easy one to make.
And if catfish were not included in the game, I wouldn't be so exasperated.
But all that aside, I know many guys that do bowfish. Not an ounce of respect for the quarry among them; none.

That is probably what gets under my skin more than anything. Tonys right - its legal.
Still don't make it right

I'll have to agree that lobbying for change is a great idea. I've always thought catfish should be considered game fish.
On further reflection this could just have easily been an escapee, as opposed to a shoot and dump situation. SO, I got a little high flustered there for minute....

It's my nature. What can I say!?
Comment by Ray Ditzenberger on July 8, 2013 at 1:26pm

I personally think that bowhunting for gar, carp, catfish and drum should be outlawed. It is a total waste IMO

I understand the sentiment....but if it's truly legal to shoot cats in this manner, then there's not much to say other than lobbying the powers that be for a change.

I am surprised that Blue cats are not considered gamefish, however. I don't bowfish, but I've settled the crosshairs on many a groundhog in my younger days.....sort of the terrestrial equivalent.

Asian redneck... I love it.

Redneck only? It gives anglers a bad name. I gives hunters a bad name. I may not be white, but I can definitely identify myself as an Asian redneck.

I totally agree, Leo. There are carp, but the bow hunting regs specify non--game fish. Any non-game fish... and catfish are categorized that way.

It is just for the chance to shoot at a live target - killing, that's all.
I'm gonna go ahead and say it, and take my chances with angering someone:

This kind of activity gives the rest of us rednecks a bad name.

No respect for the food source. They should be hunting to insidious silver carps instead. Use those carps as fertilizers. Cats are meant to be consumed with lots of beer enjoyments.

It's rough........:(

That's the unsporting part, Bob.
The goal is to shoot them. It is not an easy shot, due to refraction.
They go out in boats at night with boom lights over the water, catching
the fish feeding in the shallows. ONCE the fish is shot, no one cares further.
They are supposed to use barbed arrows to prevent escapes... maybe they do
maybe they don't.
Its not harvesting, it is slaughter.
