Leo, it has been passed down to me for generations to hook them through the lips since fish take their prey head first. I do great with this technique so I've never considered anything else........

You hook them by the tail or by the top?

I pay $1.50 a dozen for the smallest ones and usually take about three to four dozen when I'm fishing solo....I catch some nice crappie and perch just adding these guys to a jig or grub body.....

Man you're lucky! Minnows and shiners to your heart content. Wish we have them locally around here. It would be going ape with the fishes in the lake.

I like the smallest shiners I can get because I catch nice Bluegill on these minnows as well..
