In another post, I described the purchasing process thus:
"In these parts they use a paper towel tube for collection and a funnel tube as a dispenser.
First, the paper towel tube. I guess it is the nature of crickets to go into a paper towel tube to shelter. This makes it a convenient way to collect the bugs. So there are always about five of them laying around in the cricket box. The little buggers crowd tightly inside these tubes and the bait shop guy just picks up a tube - full of the little saw-backs - and dumps them into the funnel contraption.
Now, in true Carolina fashion, my shop has made their own funnel tube, DIY fashion. They have simply used duct tape the join a cut-off soda pop bottle top and a
1-1 1/2" diameter plastic tube, about 8" long. This dispenser tube doubles as a measuring unit, of course, and when filled it is unceremoniously dumped into your bait cage. How many crickets will it hold? I dunno - there is no way to be absolutely know and the crickets aint telling.
Last season I paid $2 for the tube full."
No, crickets are bought by the "tube".....they pour them in a cylinder similar to a paper towel holder and pour them in your cage.......so picture how many could be crammed in there and you get about a 100 at a time.....about $3.50 in today's market......
