Do you love big bluegill?
Got my shipment of spikes in yesterday, so had to try em' out! Calm morning, very foggy, water temps were 42 degrees on the surface.
I was using a size 12 Genz fatboy, yellow and white, tipped with the spikes. Lively bait was absolutely crucial to success, and I never put less than 3 maggots at a time on the hook, and 5 seemed to work better.
If I had been in a boat, I could've probably gotten away with more sedentary tipping, as a vertical presentation would have given me more ability to jig, and entice the fish. But casting from shore limits what you can do to impart subtle movement to your offering, and that's where a lively tip really makes the difference in my book.

Great looking hybrid, Tony! Congrats on your catch!
Wow that's hard to believe Tony I'm just east of you and I got about 1/4 inch. I unplugged the bubblier to be sure I didn't have any weak spots in it. Usually the wind keeps it broke up but looks good so far.
nice fish tony
Thanks everyone. No ice here, Dick.......I'm hoping that changes soon!
