Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Could only squeeze in a midday trip. Bites were good, but spaced out. Probably the best quality day on this lake we've had for gills. BFOD was close to 9", average fish caught was about 8". The place doesn't hold much for crappies as far as size, but my dad likes them so he's not afraid to keep them. We left around 3pm, about an hour later our one friend started getting more bites. He ended up keeping a dozen fish about the size of these, and releasing many more.

Thanks Jim, I was really happy to get out again before this little warm up we had made the ice unsafe.

Very nice. Adam! If I'm catching fish like this through the ice, then I'm happy!

Here's a map of the lake, it's about 80 acres and pretty shallow with the deepest areas near shore.

how deep is the basin of the lake?

Thanks guys. These fish were in 7-8' of water, hitting any where from 4-12" off the bottom. We were using Northland hexi fly jigs tipped with a waxworm fishing them under a float. And it was actually pretty mild weather. Temps got into the low 40s while we were there.
