McScruff the hackle in the front give the illusion of legs. Jim you been playing around with this cricket to. I'm going to keep it up till I get it right just have to put it on the back burner for now. Good luck on your continued attempts.

The frilly hackle is designed to give movement?
I ask because no cricket actually has that, and when they DO swim, the motion is all in the rear legs.

It's actually about the size of a med black cricket here in Northwest Ohio.The hook I used was a Mustad R73-9671 2XH/3XL #10. I use this hook lots. Looks like the cricket finished out at about an inch long. The 1st one I made was about the same length but real thin it looked like a sick cricket..

The pattern is by Davie McPhail called the black cricket. Hoping I can get it looking half as good as his one day.
