I think Adam nailed it...spectacular male p-seed with a dynamite profile...world-class fish in my book!

Thanks Adam... Great take on this fish... The lake owners association has introduced so many different hybrids and just recently red ears I'm beginning to question the genetic baçkground of any thing I catch lately out of that lake

Great fish Slip. To me this one actually looks to be a just a dark male pumpkinseed. The first thing I look at is the operculum: This fish has a smaller operculum, a p-seed trait, and has a white outer edge on the top half and a nice red speck on the bottom half. Also, true s-seeds will have clearer markings on their fins than p-gills will have. The bright markings on the face also lend to it being a p-seed; they are very clear and contrast sharply with the other colors on the face. These markings on the p-gills I catch aren't as sharp and distinct and tend to be either blotchy or blend into the face more so than a pure p-seed.

I'd be glad to hear any other takes as identifying hybrids can be tricky, especially when fall and winter sets in and the colors are not quite as bright.

Again, great fish, looks to be very healthy.
