Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

20150518-WIXOM LAKE fishing from shore yesterday I found a pattern of gills running the bank and road rip-rap in an average of 2-0 to 3-0 ft of water. Micro Drop shotting the holes in deeper water adjacent to the bank produced 0 hits. While the UL slip bobber making long casts parallel to the bank produced gill that were roaming the rip-rap. The bait of choice I use when searching for any species of fish of course is the Gulp pink maggot… winter spring summer and fall.
The nice thing about the reservoirs around my area is there are literally miles of rip rap to explore with this pattern. The thing to look for is timing (pre-spawn is a great time) and finding and fishing the rip-rap adjacent to the larger spawning flats.
Yesterdays catch were comprised of 6-7.5 inchers (6.5 shn) great eaters if I were filling a slot for the table yesterday… everything was catch and release.

Wixom looks like a great destination for a kayak fishing adventure. I love that I can Google Earth this very spot and get a close look at where you're fishing. I've got to add this to my list of fishing destinations...

thanks Jeff... but i think its more addiction than determination .... lol ... yes i believe the gill 10" mark will fall this season... thanks for your confidence.

thanks Steve... just little slot fish but was glad to catch anything from shore... Boyce Inc has made some changes on how close you can fish the dams or spillway... cant even get close now.... but yes back in the day there was some good fishing there.

Nice catch,  Slip.  Ever fish below the spillway?  Used to get quite a few nice ones down there.
