Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

First to catch the fish, and apparently, her first catfish, ever caught. She was aiming for the 15lbs+, but ends up catching a 1/3lb.

LOL! JB, look up Boulder Bay for Big Bear. Great place, and heavy fishing pressure, all along the shore and the pier, where we were at.

You will have a great time for next summer. Gear up, and plan well.

Before I noticed the album title I was thinking that looks like Big Bear, even though I haven't been there since I was a kid :) Is it still warm enough for tank tops up there, or did you shoot that a while ago? I've never thought of  Big Bear as a bullhead/catfish lake, but I'll have to give it a try. Is that a fishing pier, boat rental pier, or??

Next summer my wife plans to take the kids to VN and stay for the summer, so you know what that means: Big Bear, Skinner, DV, anywhere I wanna fish, all summer long - YEAH, BABY!! :D

Oh, we witnessed the flatheads lurked no more than 3 ft from us, about our kids' body length, and ripped the live 4" bluegills right off the hooks. Unfortunately, our gears (was hunting for tilapia) were not the proper gears to deal with these montrosity. We will be back next year for them.

Hehehe.  Go out at night sometime, and pin a sunfish or a bullhead to the bottom in about 12" of water and wait.

I don't know how many times I've heard of Flatheads thrashing around, feeding, in water so shallow their eyes were above water.

Ben, the guys along the shore managed to haul in a 5lbs bull. We fanned his areas to see if we were able to catch another one.

Allen, will do. Plenty of bull and flaheads in this water. Only the bulls are active in the shallows compared to the channels and flatheads.

That's actually a pretty good sized Yellow Bullhead. They don't get big like the Blues, Channels, or Flatheads.

Leo, next time, use the Bullheads for bait for the Flatheads!  Flatheads (and Blue Catfish) will kill Bullheads, not because of competition, but because Bullheads will raid the bigger catfish's nests and pilfer the eggs.

LOL! Will do. Far away from boat's and car's doors.

I found in the spring they are more of them and easier to catch. Hey Leo do me a faver and stay away from them car doors.

They truly are. She wants to head back in the spring with the new kayaks, and hammer the water for larger ones, rather than these dinks. The water district wants to reduce the kitties population because of the water quality issues they caused. There's no limit on these kitties. People don't want to eat them either for some reason. We'll gladly do them a favor.
