Roger. Will make sure to follow your suggestion.
GGGggggggggees that thing made it there quick Leo and glad she like the OLE TOOTY ROD!!!!!!!!!! IT must have arrived safe and sound and I"m glad of that buddy.
Now Leo I don't wax the rods but once a year, well twice a year. Once at the start of the year and once at the end. Rest of the time I just wipe em off with a wet rag and then dry em well and put em up till the next use.
Cork tip for ya Leo: DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDON'T USE ANY DETERGENT OF ANY KIND ON THE CORK! I just wipe them off with a wetttttttttttttttt rag and let em dry naturally in the air, NEVER PUT THEM IN A TUBE WET AS THEY WILL MOLD! AT the end of the season I sometimes take 400-600 grit sandpaper and lllllllllllightly sand the grip horizontally so as not to put any grooves in it. Then there will be lots of dust on the grip and seat. Use a rag with a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittle bit of denatured alcohol on it to take the dust off the cork and use Pledge furniture spray wax on the seat. IF you use alcohol on the seat it may take some of the color off an anodized aluminum seat. Fresh outta tips now buddy................
Thanks for the info Tooty. Then the car wax is the way to go after each use then. I've been religious about taking care of the rods after each use after college. After each usage, I clean, polish, and stow them away properly. Now, I'm even more religious making sure I put those Wonderods away, because they are now prized rods for our family.
By the way, Angela is extremely happy with her Wonderod. She can't want to hit the water this winter with her dad, using his Wonderod as well. Looks like we're the Wonderods family. LOL
LEO THERE ARE NO SECRETS HERE AS YOU KNOW!!!!!! BEEN using ccccccccccheap green liquid turtle wax for years as a cosmetic cleaner of the Wonderods. I also use denatured alcohol , nnnnnnnnnnot rubbing or drinking alcohol, just denatured for the really stubborn stains. After the blank is clean then I use the wax.
Just a tip here LEo. These wonderod blanks never did have a finish on them to begin with. On pristine blanks they look shinny and that's the way they came out of the baking ovens after they were made. I believe they were all wrapped in cellophane and put in the baking ovens to heat the fiberglass strands to bond them. THe cellophane either was burned off by the ovens or removed when taken out to cure the blanks. NNNNNNNNNONE OF THE WONDEROD BLANKS ever had a finish on em except for over application of thread finish that spilled onto the blanks.
Just a little insight for ya buddy...........
Wait..you use liquid car wax too? Holy smoke. I thought I was the only one to do this. My friends said I was a nut. They purchased the high end lubricant to coat their entire rod. I looked at them, and said I was cheap, but know exactly what chemical compounds are used by the high end stuffs, as well as the liquid wax stuff for car that sells for $1. Ehhh..
Leo hit it on the head Rick!!!!!! Just clean it up some and it's good for another 50 years . Sadly it will out live you and me Rick!!!!! Just use automotive liquid car wax to do the blank and thread on guides may need something else.........
All used up?! He don't know what "all used up" mean. Until the rod is full of broken segments, held up by masking tape every 2', and the handle looks like it got chewed up by a bear..that's used up.
My son just returned it to me yesterday. I think he thought it was all used up Leo
Nice! Another rod in the arsenal to be abused by Rick King..the Great Lakes hunter.
