WELL LEO YOU, SIR JEFFREY , MASTER CASTER DICK, AND A FEW OTHERS here are the experts to me and will take your word for it. You won't believe this one but about 15 years ago when I started making the regular Micros in #12 a local Bluegill master asked how come I was making em so big!!!!!!! GO figure ! Now I'm making this stuff on Shark Hooks!
Tooty, Jeffrey is smacked on about #8. We're using #8 and #6 around here for gills as well. I use long shank to hunt for crappie, and occasional cat or carp decided to take a strike my my lure. #10 and smaller, I had to toss the hooks after a few events as the bass turned the hooks into spears. I normally use the cheap Walmart brand, but, I come to utilize more of Eagle Claw, Mustad, and Gamakatsu now. Much much more durable.
I know and I'm kind of stubborn and cantankerous at times , but I listen to the experts and I"m sure you've forgotten more about gills and crappies than I know ! THIS HAS BEEN A LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR ME SIR JEFFREY !!!!
I'm not trying to change anyone's mind.....# 8 will give me the power to catch all fish that bite Tooty and it's fine for larger gills too....LOL....The # 8 long shank looks great!
If Jeffrey bring home the filets this spring, I'm tying an army of these little buggers.
ALL RIGHT JEFFREY I'LL TAKE YOUR WORD FOR IT , I'm just used to tying stuff small up here I guess and will rethink patterns etc. Spring is a long time away and who knows what we'll come up with by then. You'll have so much new stuff in your box you won't have time to try it all!!!!!!!!!!!! SO MANY FLIES AND SO LITTLE TIME!!!!! A buddy of mine used to tell me that all the time and that's were it came from!
