Thanks, guys!  For sure I make them to be fished - I'd be sad if they weren't.

Very nice ... too nice. I'd never fish with it.

But your craftsmanship is impeccable.

Gorgeous job Walt.

OH YEAH WALT SEEN THIS ONE BEFORE AND IT'S BEAUTIFUL ALSO. I told Leo once in an email that YOU MAY HAVE INSPIRED ME to something again just to look at and may do it this winter. The last rod I did was a few days ago and is a user. Think I still have a few old GREEN GRAPHITE BLANKS laying around here some were and will use them this winter maybe to do something a bit more technical. I used to do simple Tartan wraps and chevrons etc. back in the day and see you have done some of that too this rod. I tend to do simpler work and just because it's easier on my old eyes.
Thanks for posting pics of your work and I know it must be gratifying to have the comments and the pleasure of looking at lifes work . I appreciate the pics and your dedication......

Ohh man, that birch bark... haha. This rod is INCREDIBLE!

Comment by Chris Roberts on July 8, 2013 at 7:07pm

I just had 4 Birch tree's on my property fall over.  I'm sure its not the same stuff though.  Mines the paper birch and I cant imagine you being able to finish up and look like that.

The biggest section is birch bark.  There are two sections of birch bark; besides that, I used three different colors of dyed, stabilized box elder burl, and green-dyed burl cork.

theres no way I could fish with anything that fancy , I've looked at that rod several times now hahaha

Comment by Chris Roberts on July 8, 2013 at 7:02pm

I really like the look of the biggest piece (I'm assuming it's cork)

This is a spinning rod built on a 7' 3-weight fiberglass fly rod blank made by Lamiglas.
