oh yea;; love this little bugger !! neat tie Steve !!
Thanks David. Started adding some brown marabou to this fly, makes a great carp fly.
Great looking pattern Steve !!
Yes Leo, I added about 8 turns of .015 non-toxic wire on the under body. I then wrap over the wire with thread, then coat with Salley Hanson Hard As Nails. This fills in any gaps and makes for a smoother body for wrapping the Body Glass (Orvis') on the body. I buy pre-painted eyes, X-small. I'm getting ready to start tying some of these with a black body and orange feathers. Should be interesting.
Dick, was wondering about make of rod, reel and weight of fly line you were planning on using. There is alot to choose from out there.
Sorry Steve I'm a novice what do you mean fly fishing set up.
Steve, did you add a bit of lead weight to the body? And the eyes..painted? That is an awesome lure for late summer, when the beetles are in full mating mode.
Have fun with your fly fishing Dick. I always enjoy fishing with the "long rods" and art of casting with them. Let us know which fly fishing set up you are going to use.
Thanks Steve looking forward to the challenge.
The head is chenille. What I like about this fly is that it does swim with the hook point up and all the possibilties of different color combinations. Once you start fly fishing Dick, it is hard to go back to any other type of fishing. And when you start tying your own flies, you're a goner. Welcome to the DARK SIDE !!!! Have fun.
Steve nice fly I don't fly fish much but going to start this year. I don't want to offend you but I love that fuzzy head I think it would hold fish attractant longer. Great work that's where good eyes come in. Thank you for your posting.
