Do you love big bluegill?

And the toothy's (Northern Pike) really love them also.
A friend of mine has been destroying the stripers at a local lake by trolling these top forage baits on a long line. Every predator in the lake eats them.
I decided to move yesterday when I began to catch these shiners only.....they were way more aggressive than the smaller gills in the same area.....I was hooking these shiners on a #4 hook....
David, you'd have kittens to look inside my fishing backpack. I've got floats galore in one pouch, and balloons in a zippered pocket.
I always keep a few of the big floats handy, just for this reason - and a couple of balloons are in my vest.
Get a size 2 Baitholder hook. Hook that shiner through the fleshy part of the tail, just behind the dorsal fin. Toss it, unweighted, near a weedline, preferably a floating weed mat. Feed slack line as the Shiner swims around. When you get a hit, set the hook hard and start reeling.
You could also do a balloon rig. Blow up a party balloon to about 8 - 9". Tie it shut around your mainline. Toss the bait and balloon in. The balloon acts like a giant bobber. If you get a hit, either the balloon will try to go under, start running along the surface, or more likely, just pop.
Good luck!
is it a problem that i become hungry when looking at this shiner?
Nice big Bass bait that is.
Shiner!
