You guys make me wish I have a time machine to jump from time period to time period in the past. Too many good olden days' stories that I want to immerse myself in. You guys have to write a novel for each day of fishing. I thought my meticulous notes that I recorded and posted are good enough. You guys just my salivate even more when you start to talk about the old days, urging me to take even more notes to hand it off to future generations of anglers.
JEFFREY AND DICK, HOW RIGHT YOU BOTH ARE!! WHEN I look at all the vices there are in the world today and all the things that are a less than positive influence on their lives it's good there are still pastimes like gill fishing for em to do.

TO ALL OUT THERE IN MY GROUP: YEP WE LIVED IN THE GOOD OLE DAYS, but it just came to me in a vision that when you take a kid fishing today , today will be their good ole days when they are old enough to be posting on BIG BLUEGILLS !!!!!! I hope my grandkids this summer will experience some of what I had as a kid in the memories of their child hood.

HEy Jeffrey,
I knew when I started this group there would be stories like this and those memories will always be with you and thanks for some insight into what made you who you are today. I relish this story and many others I know are on the way to us all.
Thanks buddy for taking the time to post it. GREAT ONE

Nice growing up adventures Jeffrey etched in our minds forever.
What a great story. I can visualize it, almost like I was there. Fishing, and the outdoors in general, has been good to me my entire life. It's easy to tell that you feel the same way, Jeffrey.
Thanks for sharing a piece of your childhood.
As a kid growing up in St. Tammany parish Louisiana life consisted of everything outdoors....I had a fishing Uncle and Aunt that lived in Madisonville down on the Tchefuncte River which ultimately flowed into Lake Ponchartrain. They talked of a spot they would night fish growing up and I encouraged my dad to get me down there.....The location was an early Coast Guard camp with old covered piers and lighting that was open for public use......Well, I got my gear together one night back in 1976 and we headed down with several of my cousins...We had scooped some grass shrimp that afternoon and netted some finger mullets for Alligator Gar bait....After getting our gear unloaded, we set out our big Penns for gar and started working the piers and pilings with grass shrimp......My cousin yelled out giant Bluegill and when he held it up I was very excited with the big bull he had landed....As he ran to the cooler, I cashed in on his absence and landed one of my own.......We continued to rake in bluegill one after another until we heard a penn reel peeling line.....Rushed over to the rod and braced for the fight ahead.....Once the gar ate the mullet, the hook was set and the fight was on......twenty minutes later we drug the beast up on the boat launch to get a good look........The fish was right at 50 inches long and after admiring the catch we cut the line and released the river monster to fight again.......In the meantime, my cousin noticed some big blue crabs under the light in some shallow water so we turned our attention to them and ended up scooping several dozen big Jimmies for a great boil!
The moral of this story is the fact that we had a great childhood growing up in the Sportsman Paradise and trips like this were the beginning of who I am today.......This location is not the same anymore because of booming populations and other progress....but not all change is good especially when it comes to the outdoors.......I wouldn't change a thing about the Good Ole Days and I look forward to sharing more stories with you folks........
John, First time I ever heard of SIGHT FISHING for CRAWPAPPIES!!!!!
