Well, Dean caught a 4" bluegill out of our pond today. They are growing nicely. Lots of nibbles. So far, nothing over 6 1/2 " What have any of you caught recent/y?

ya that the thing I was going to have to do. I have one of my crews out there to day back filling in the area that over flows adding a 6" pipe with the wire cloth on the end.

Because of debris I put in 1" harware cloth in the narrowest overflow area. Put up between two T-post driven in the ground. I've just done this and will let you know the next time it floods again. My neighbor has told me that he has found dead fish on his property, but I have never seen them personally.

I also have a over flow from my pond but it drains into another pond put traps in didn't find any fish I'm hoping that it needs to be more then the 6" or foot to loss fish.
I'm think about adding the black water felt sheets they use in construction road work that'll let water pass and not the fish. Just need it about a foot high. What your take on this?

My pond has flooded several times, water draining from the low side of my pond and was wondering what kind of fish loss I have had.? The water overflow depth is less than a foot deep going out of the pond.

it had to tell right now. fishing the pond the bass hit everything i though in the water. At feeding time the gills are going at it good. With the 400 fingelings I added in Sept. there should still be at less 1/2 still in the pond. I'll know here in March I should be able to really tell how the gills are doing. As you can see in my pictures everything I'm catching is fairly fat for thier size. I'm planning on liming the pond this weekend. And finish adding the cover to the pond.

That should be fine, adding 50 4-5" coppernose, as long as you're taking out a good number of the bluegill (hybrids and common northern-strain both) already in there in the meantime so you're not overcrowding by adding the new ones. You could even add 100 if you catch out a lot of the smaller bluegill in there now. As you mention, I would try to catch out all of the smaller hybrids (you could catch out all the big ones if you want as well, or could leave a few to see how big they'll get and then keep them when they get around 2 lbs.), and also keep a lot of the smaller common-strain, especially the females. If you keep 100, you could add 100. How many bluegill do you think you have in the pond at present? If most have been eaten by the bass then you wouldn't have to keep as many.

ok Then now I let the bass clean them out and I;ll catch the rest. If I add fingerling not they won't last though the spring with all the bass I have in the pond. Guess I'll add 50 4 to 5 inch in the fall what you think

You'[re in Texas, is that right, Rick? If so, coppernose bluegill will get just as large or larger in your pond, with the major difference from HBG that they don't regress genetically after the first generation - their offspring can get just as large as the parents, and their offspring's offspring, etc. etc. Especially if you have or install an automatic feeder, the coppernose can get to three pounds.

And the quote below from Dunn's saying HBG are good forage for bass is in direct contradiction to everything I've ever read from any fisheries biologist, and certainly the opinions of everyone on Pond Boss. If they're who you got your fish from, especially considering they sold you way too many fish for a pond that size, I would suggest finding another hatchery. Overton's is in TX and they're a Pond Boss subscriber, and highly thought of on PB. They have pure-strain coppernose bluegill that came from Florida (where the substrain originates from) that get huge - some PB members have grown them to over a pound in a little over a year.
