Ok, I'm going to get him! Yesterday, I caught a catfish that was so big, it broke my little bluegill line. I never even saw it. Today, I fished in the same spot, and I think I caught the same fish. This time, I took my time and got him within 10' of the bank when he broke my line again. I swear his head was 5" across. Now, I'm going to get him and thought all of you might like to guess how long he will be if his head is that wide?

Since Magnolia Rick stocked Tilapia in the summer, I was wondering if anyone (in TX) ever tried to stock trout in the winter? And, if so, where did you get them?

Went shopping for fish stuff today. This is what I bought:

Let's see if bluegillboogieman wonders anything about this.

I did catch a LMB along with 4 GSF. It was only 7.5", but that's 4" over the summer.

This is usally a good time to catch LMB, maybe they are eating all the minows and small fish you were worried about.

Keep trying and let us know.

It seems the fish are starting to hibernate already. I hardly catch any fish, once in a while a GSF. Very sad about it. The fun's all over. Have to wait until next spring.

If the bass I put in my pond do not remove as many as I would like I will sell some as well if I can, they are used up here for Flathead fishing and like I said they prefer the GSF over the BG just do to the fact one of them will live a week on a hook as compared to a BG which is usally dead after the first night.

That is if a Flathead is not waiting on the line for you. LOL

How much do Gills go for in TX?

Down here in Texas Bass is king to most. Every lake pond or creek is fished and stocked with bass. The bluegills are just considered bass food. I was at my local fish hatchery and they were guy standing inline to by 4” gills. Going bass fish are putting them on trot-line. To sale small gill from my pond next spring will help cover some of my feed cost. NOW that just and old man from Texas way of thing

When you say pretty BG do you have some in mind? As some of the better ones for looks may be Longear, Pumpkinseed, Redbreast, etc. These are actually other sunfish not BG but at this point not sure if that matters to you.

I just want to know if we are mainly talking for looks, bait, food, etc.

As to me the best one to raise for bait is the GSF, they are hardy, easy to raise, elongated, etc. Plus around here they bring a premium.

But most do not want them in a pond as they compete with everything for food, do not get all that big, and tend to stunt.

So with that in mind may give you some ideas.

Will be neat to watch this project take hold.

I have two different type aeration system in my 3/4 acre pond. One is a sub pump in a 5 gallon bucket set in one end of my pond. Takes water from the bottom and spry in the air picking oxygen and then pulling back down. The second is at the other end. I have an air compressor with a 3/4 pipe with four 1/2 outlet every 3ft. Pump oxygen into the bottom of pond. I run them both at night 8PM till 8AM.
Now that's just how a cheep old man in Texas does it.
