As per Dunn fish farm in OK.
The Hybrid Bluegill is crossed between a male bluegill and female green sunfish. This particular cross produces a fish with the large mouth of the sunfish and the aggressiveness of the bluegill, which enables the fish to grow faster and larger than common bream. This unique combination is ideally suited for children learning to fish,( this was my main point) all the way up to the fly fisherman looking for a new challenge.

This fish will reproduce twice per year which makes it ideally suited for feeding a new or existing bass population. However, this fish will reproduce at 90% male so it won't take over your pond like most bream. It will feed on a commercial feed with annual growth rates of up to 1/2 to 3/4 pound per season. With a good management program in place these fish can reach weights of 2 to 2 1/2 pounds and exceptional fish will reach the weight of 3 pounds or greater! Make the Hybrid Bluegill a part of your management program and reap the rewards for years to come.
Now I'm confussed now ( I know I'm alway confussed)
Checking out picture of sun fish and the hybird blue gill
and a bluegill and this stupid fish I caught for a old bass fisherman. It look like what Dunn had shown. Again this is my first ( and as old as I am) my last pond project. What started out as a little pond for the grandbabies to fish in has ( An I'm injoying it) a nice project. I want to do this right so the kids as they grow so will the fish they catch. I'm going to up load my picture on pond boss and see what they say. BUT for what I've read the people on this site are just as inform as some of them. That just me and you know me. LOL

You might want to tell your boys not to do you any more favors with stocking - wild fish can wreak havoc with a management plan. But don't kill them or you'll have to do all of the yardwork by yourself.

Let just feed the bass with them.

I'm killing my boys. After review this with them they said" they had put some perch in the pond too". With the weekend of fishing pond we caught 20 little bass 8 to 11"and two 8" gills and now this sun fish. OMG.
The pond is heavy bass the 400 bluegills are eating the food but not the hook. I'll keep and eye on what being caught and I have been keeping a list and pictures when and how many being caught. I'll down load pictures and SF, BG & HBG so that I really know which is which. Thank guys for the feed back

If you keep a high concentration of predators (bass), they should keep the GSF thinned out. You probably won't be able to eliminate them altogether short of draining the pond, which isn't necessary. They do regress genetically after the first generation; I don't know if it's possible for them to revert entirely back to a GSF, but they do lose most of their genetic potential after the stocker generation.

Walt, correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told that HBG revert back to GSF after a few generations. Is that correct? What would be the best way to get rid of any GSF? I have a few in my pond that I thought were Goggle eye.
Comment by Walt Foreman on January 24, 2010 at 10:09pm
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty certain those are GSF. If you do a search on Pond Boss there are threads on there with pictures of both GSF and HBG, so you can see the difference.

Rick, you need to find a new fish supplier. Those aren't hybrid bluegill - they're pure-strain green sunfish, which are a very good reason not to let your bass population drop below 100 or so because the GSF will take over the pond. They don't grow nearly as large as HBG, and are generally considered a nuisance fish. HBG are shaped more like a bluegill, much more rounded.
